MOUNT VERNON, WA: Samantha Steavenson, 23, of Mount Vernon was seriously injured in a Motor Vehicle Accident on December 20th, 2014 on Friday Creek Road in Rural Skagit County.

Full of love, spark, charm and smiles, Samantha is a young body with a spirit that can connects to anyone she meets writes Loran Parrish on the Go Fund Me Page that she set up for her friend. At 23 years-old, Samantha has volunteered across the world, been an uplifting and inspiring example as the oldest of five wonderful siblings,  an understanding and energetic friend and companion to all who have been blessed to have her in their life; the list with this lovely little lady, truly, does not end.

Many folks in Skagit County know Samantha Steavenson from her interactions with the public at one of her local jobs. Samantha has worked at The Calico Cupboard Cafe & Bakery,  Pacioni’s Pizzaria Italian Restaurant in Mount Vernon and most recently, she is known as the  fun-loving, always smiling  server, at The Train Wreck Bar & Grill, here in Burlington, Washington.

On the rainy night of December 20th, 2014, after attending a local play for a girls’ night with her little sister, mother and grandmother,  Samantha  missed a turn and went off the road, hitting a tree and her vehicle tumbled down an extremely steep slope near Friday Creek. She was ejected from the car,  fracturing her pelvis and breaking her neck. She was out in the elements for 8 hours. After laying in the elements for  a few hours she was able to crawl back to her car to get warm and dry.  At daylight, she  was able to crawl back out and find her cell phone. After  finding her phone, she did what any responsible person would do, she called her  work to tell them that she would not be able to make it into work.  Then, she called for help. Samantha was taken to Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon. The emergency staff at Skagit Valley Hospital  decided  almost immediately,  that she needed to be flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Mark Steavenson and Loran Parrish, have  been updating Samantha’s Co-Workers, friends and family on her condition, via his Facebook page and a Go Fund Me Account. According to the  latest posts,  Samantha has been  in tremendous spirits. Despite that, her ailments keep adding up. She had no feeling in her right leg for some time and was discovered that she has a blood clot.

She is currently undergoing three different surgeries throughout the next few days: one to bypass a healthy vein from her left leg to the right, a spinal correction so that her neck can heal, and a pelvic surgery due to the multiple fractures that she sustained. Samantha remains in tremendous spirits, is fully coherent, and is in the running for Best 2014 Patient at Harborview according to the incredible nurses, doctors and surgeons helping her.

Despite this, the road to recovery is one long traversed. Samantha’s muscle tissue in her right leg is compromised due to loss of blood flow for so many hours and multiple major tendons and ligaments have been torn. Incisions from her waist to her knee on both legs were made, requiring grafts. Over the next few days, doctors will observe the health of the muscle tissue in her leg, in hopes that it won’t die and require more surgery. All the while, Samantha’s neck and pelvis are broken. There is no doubt that months and even years of physical therapy will be required to ensure her full recovery.

Samantha, much to the dismay of her loving co-workers and customers, will be out of work for a long time to ensure her best recovery when she is finished with surgery, meanwhile having medical bills stack up against her. As friends and family together, we are asking for any help that can be given to ensure that this is but a passable obstacle in Samantha’s life that will not unneccesarily set back the inspiring ambitions, hopes and dreams that she strives for. We ask for any help to relieve her from the cumbersome weight of stacking debt, medical bills, and an inability to generate income, as well as providing the opportunity for the best long-term treatment she can receive.

Our hearts and love are with everyone and Samantha’s well-being. We thank you so much for any help that you have to give.

We can promise you that she’ll happily grace you with an immensely contagious smile when she makes it through
