Klickitat: Just after 4am on January 2nd, 2015, Washington State Patrol Troopers from District 5 responded to a serious injury collision on East Highway 14 near Milepost 78, 10 miles East of Bingen in Klickitat County.
According to the press memo, 18 year old Kurtis Smartlowit of Toppenish was Westbound on SR 14, near milepost 78, driving a silver 2002 Ford F150 Extended Cab when the vehicle left the roadway to the right, struck a rock embankment, rolled and came to rest in the ditch. The press memo states, troopers believe he and all of his passengers had been drinking. He is listed as wearing his seat belt.
Passenger Jonathan Malatare, 18 of Goldendale was injured and transported by aid to M.C. Medical center, The Dalles. It is unknown if he was wearing a seat belt.
A 15 year old male passenger from Wapato, was injured and transported to M.C. Medical center then airlifted to O.H.S.U in Portland. It is unknown if he was wearing a seat belt.
A second 15 year old male from Goldendale fled the scene. It is unknown if he was wearing a seat belt or if he had any injuries.
A 17 year old Female Passenger was injured and transported to M.C. Medical Center. Her hometown is unknown. It is unknown if she was wearing a seat belt.
A 17 year old Male from Goldendale was injured and transported by aid to M.C. Medical Center. It is unknown if he was wearing a seat belt.
The cause of the accident is listed as Driving under the influence, and wheels off the roadway.
Charges against the driver are pending for 2 counts of Vehicular Assault, Minor In possession, driving under the influence as well as other charges.
All Passenger has been referred for Minor In Possession.
