Oak Harbor, Wa: Wasington State D.O.T. Crews have completed their  first week on bridge inspections and have one week to go of lane closures and flaggers at the Deception Pass and Canoe Pass bridges.

DOT  crews will continue their bridge inspection and cleaning weekdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on  Monday through Thursday, and if necessary, from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday April 10th. The city of Oak Harbor is inspecting its water lines on the bridge during the same hours. Drivers should expect delays of up to 20 minutes

The Story Below is from the Washington State Department of Transportation Website:

OAK HARBOR – Drivers should prepare for two weeks of daytime delays on State Route 20 at Deception Pass starting Monday, March 30, while Washington State Department of Transportation crews clean and inspect the bridge spans along the highway.

Drivers traveling through the area will encounter alternating, single-lane traffic at both the Deception Pass and Canoe Pass bridges, and may experience delays of up to 20 minutes.

The closure is for the biannual bridge inspection. Maintenance crews will use under-bridge-inspection-trucks to clean and inspect the structure. Additionally, WSDOT will team up with the city of Oak Harbor to inspect waterlines attached to the bridges during the closures. Contractors working for WSDOT to repave the bridges this summer will also take advantage of the lane closures to inspect the asphalt on the bridge decks.

“We know there’s never a good time to close lanes of traffic,” said Bridge Preservation Engineer Harvey Coffman. “But we hope that by combining our work with other groups, we will create less of an impact on drivers in the long run.”

Closure details
Crews will be at work between Monday, March 30, and Friday, April 10, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Monday through Thursday. Work will wrap up by noon each Friday, and no work will take place during the weekend. During working hours, drivers will not be allowed to park on Pass Island, between the two bridges.

Cleaning the bridges improves the efficiency of WSDOT’s rigorous bridge inspection program and ensures the maintenance and repairs extend the bridge’s useful life for years to come.
