Skagit County: Teachers in Sedro Woolley and Mount Vernon are planning to join teachers from six other districts for a one-day Walk out to protest education proposals in the legislature.
According to a news release from the statewide teachers union, 2,600 teachers in a total of eight districts throughout the state have voted to stage one-day walkouts during the final days of the legislative session.
Teachers in the Arlington, Lakewood and Stanwood-Camano districts have planned walk outs for Wednesday April 22, while Bellingham and Ferndale teachers have decided to Walk Out on Friday, April 24.
Teachers in Mount Vernon, Blaine and Sedro-Woolley have also approved strikes. Mount Vernon School will participate in the one day walk out on Friday, April 24th. Parents of Mount Vernon Students will need to make other arrangements for their children on Friday. Updated: Sedro-Woolley Schools will be closed on Wednesday, April 29, with a make up day on May 22nd
The Walk Outs will cause temporary inconveniences for families who will have to arrange for somewhere for their kids to go for the day but teachers hope the long term affects of the walk out will not only benefit teachers but students and families as well.
