Missing Hiker Found in Glacier Peak

DARRINGTON, Wash. – A  man hiking in the Glacier Peak area who was reported overdue by his family on Monday  was located and safely returned to the trail head by Snohomish County Search and Rescue members this morning said, Shari Ireton, the Snohomish County Communications director.

Relatives of the 27 year-old man reported him one day overdue yesterday around 1 p.m.

The Snohomish County Search and Rescue (SAR)  Unit launched both ground and air operations to locate him.  SAR personnel met up with two climbers who confirmed that they had talked with the man on Sunday, near Glacier Gap.

This morning, hikers who had been in the area ran into SAR members and reported finding the man yesterday near the Pacific Crest Trail, off-route.  The hikers said they had provided him with water and escorted him back to the proper trail.

Around 8:30 this morning, the man was located by the SAR horse unit, who escorted him safely to the trail head.

“We are very grateful for all of the help from civilian hikers and climbers,” said SAR Sgt. Danny Wikstrom. “Without their assistance, this could have had a tragic outcome. It was the combination of support from the man’s family, hikers, climbers, and the SAR team that had this come together for a happy ending.”
