Whatcom County, WA- The Washington State Patrol responded to a high risk motor vehicle accident just before 2 pm today in the 2000 block of Lummi Shore Drive in Whatcom County.
According to the press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 63 year old Dale Schmidt of Bellingham was Northbound on Lummi Shore Drive in a 1986 Chevrolet Blazer when his vehicle left the roadway to the right and went over a rock wall into the water. The vehicle came to rest about 60′ from the Roadway in the water.
According to a Facebook post on Whatcom Scanner Report, Dionne Marie said, two men swam out to the vehicle and helped pull the driver out of the vehicle while another person administered first aid to the man.
The Press memo states the driver was injured and transported by aid to St. Joseph’s Hospital.
The vehicle was totaled and impounded to Johnson’s Towing.
The Press memo says the driver was not wearing a seat belt and it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
The cause is under investigation, but no charges are pending.
