DUI Driver Injures Three in Whatcom County

The Washington State Patrol Responded to a DUI crash on SR542 at SR9  in Whatcom County just after 9 pm on November 23rd, 2015.

According to the press memo from the Washington State Patrol, Nicky Millard, 42 of Lynden was Westbound on SR 542 in a 2007 Honda Civic at a high rate of speed when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road.

The press memo states the driver of the Honda  went into the Eastbound lanes of travel and side swiped an Eastbound 2005 Chevrolet Truck driven  by 65 year old Lane Bode of Maple Falls.   Mr. Bode had tried to move to the side of the road to avoid a collision but was still struck.  His truck was pushed into the ditch on the Southeast  side of the intersection.  The Honda then struck the guardrail on the Southwest side of the intersection.

Both Drivers were injured and transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham.

A passenger in the Honda, 36 year old Faye Locke of Bellingham was also injured and transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham.

According to the press memo,  drugs or alcohol as well as excessive speed played a role in the crash.

Charges are pending against the driver of the Honda.

The vehicles were both totaled and transported to Bellingham Detachment of the Washington State Patrol.

The Press memo states it is unknown if the driver of the Honda was wearing a seat belt, but states the passenger was not wearing a seat belt. The driver of the truck was wearing a seat belt.
