Everson Couple Injured In Felony Hit and Run

WHATCOM COUNTY, WA- The Washington State Patrol responded to a 2 vehicle crash on Everson Goshen Road (State Route 544)  near milepost 6 in Whatcom County  around 6:08 pm on February 8th, 2016.

According to the press memo from the Washington State Patrol, a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe was turning West onto SR544 out of a grocery store parking lot when it struck an Eastbound 1998 Subaru Forester driven by Jeffrey Bergman, 48 of Everson.  The driver of the Tahoe took off running from the scene and left the driver of the Subaru and his passenger, 50 year old  Jennifer Bergman of Everson,  severely injured in their crashed vehicle. 

Both the driver and passenger  of the Forester were transported by aid to St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham.  Jeffrey Bergman suffered fractures to his ribs and  sternum.  Jennifer Bergman suffered two broken femurs and was transported to Harborview Medical Center.  The press memo states they were both wearing their seat belts.

Both vehicles were totaled in the crash and impounded to the Washington State Patrol Bullpen in Bellingham.

The cause of the crash is under investigation and felony  charges are pending against the driver who ran from the scene.
