Sedro Woolley, WA- Hillary Butler, a Lakes High School Assistant Football Coach and Former Seattle Seahawk won’t be back for his 3rd season this fall as the Assistant Football Coach because him and his business partner are seeking to obtain a business license to start M.J. Farms, a marijuana processor and producer in Sedro Woolley.
Mr. Butler is a 1989, Lakes High School Graduate. After graduating, he played in the Rose Bowl for the University of Washington Huskies. He then went on to play in the NFL as a Seattle Seahawk and a Denver Bronco. In 1997, he was part of the Denver Broncos’ Super Bowl Championship Team. His NFL career ended in 2000 as a result of numerous injuries.
After his NFL Career ended, he became involved in the music industry for a short period of time. He recorded and produced a few Seahawks themed songs, under the name Hill-B.
In 2006, Mr. Butler was arrested near Lynden, Washington for smuggling Marijuana across the Canadian Border. He plead guilty to Possession of Marijuana with intent to distribute. He served over a year in a Federal Prison for his role in the crime.
After getting out of jail a friend invited him to help at a Football Camp in Whatcom County. Shortly afterwards he became the defensive coordinator at Sehome High School in Bellingham.
After leaving Whatcom County, he volunteered for a year at Lakes High School and the following year was paid a stipend for working as the defensive coordinator. This would have been his third year working for the Lakes High School Lancers before school district officials told him his contract would not be renewed. The students did not know about his business ventures until the contract issue came up. They are now vowing their support for their coach on Twitter and other social media sites.
