Mount Vernon, Washington: Mount Vernon Fire and EMS responded to the area of Myrtle Street and South 2nd Street for a medical response this afternoon.
Arriving Fire Units found an unconscious male in a vehicle and requested additional units for assistance as CPR was initiated.
According to Lt. Chris Cammock with the Mount Vernon Police Department, a woman who was stopping to do business at the courthouse observed a man sitting in his car who appeared to be reading a book. When the woman came back out from the courthouse the man was still in the same position and it looked odd. The woman reportedly tried to get the man’s attention and when he didn’t respond, the woman realized something medically might be wrong and she called 9-1-1.
Mount Vernon Firefighters and aid crews responded and found the man was unconscious. Fire crews had to break out a window in the car in order to gain access to the man and they determined the man was not breathing and provided CPR but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lt. Cammock said there is no indication of suspicious circumstances or foul play at this time and it is suspected the man died of natural causes.
The area around the scene was blocked for about two hours to try and shelter the situation from the public and allow investigators time to investigate the scene.
