Burlington, Washington– On Thursday, June 9th, 2016 around 8:30 pm Burlington Officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision at Peterson Road and Garret Road in Burlington.
Arriving Officers found a gold Saturn Coupe in the intersection with extensive rear end damage. The rear window was shattered, the trunk was buckled and the rear bumper appeared to be pushed into the rear tires. The elderly female driver was reclined, partially leaning back in to the rear right seat. The impact of the crash caused the driver’s seat to collapse backwards, the stereo became dislodged from the dashboard, and the rear view mirror became dislodged from the windshield. The driver was transported by medics to the hospital.
Witnesses told Officers a Honda was last seen traveling West on Peterson Road after striking the Saturn. Officers checked the area and found a gold 2000 Honda Accord parked in the front yard of a residence on Peterson Road, several blocks West of the collision. A female was still seated in the vehicle and was slumped over the steering wheel. When contacted by police about what happened, she told them “I was high….I was stupid.”
The driver was later identified as the owner of the vehicle, Isabel Torres. She was transported to Skagit Valley Hospital and was interviewed by Washington State Patrol troopers who noted she had the odor of intoxicants on her breath, her eyes were watery and bloodshot, her face was flushed and she admitted to Troopers to drinking wine and smoking marijuana prior to the crash.
Ms. Torres was booked into the Skagit County Jail for Investigation of Felony Hit and Run of an Attended vehicle and Driving Under the Influence. She has since been released from the Skagit County Jail awaiting her next court appearance.
