Skagit County, Washington– The Washington State Patrol responded to an injury crash in the 300 block of Lake Samish Road around 10:05 am on July 23rd, 2016.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, three occupants were traveling in a maroon 1999 Jeep Cherokee at a high rate of speed in the 300 block of Lake Samish Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it crashed and rolled off the Eastbound shoulder of the road.

Trooper Mark Francis, told Caleb Hutton with the Bellingham Herald, “the Jeep rolled with such force that it left gouges in the roadway.” Trooper Francis continued ” then the Jeep crashed through a wire fence west of the road, and came to a rest on its top.”

The press memo states none of the three occupants were wearing seat belts and at the time of the press memo the State Patrol had not concluded who the driver of the vehicle was.

The injured passengers are listed as:

25-year old Lacey Breckenridge of Bow. The press memo states she  was transported to Skagit Valley Hospital and Trooper Francis told Caleb Hutton she  had a broken arm among other injuries.  A friend of hers, posted on the Skagit Breaking Facebook Page that she was later transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

21-year old Victor Martinez, of Bow. The press memo states he was transported to Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon. Trooper Francis later said Mr. Martinez’s injuries were relatively minor and he had since been released.

22-year old Nathan Mationg, of Bow. The press memo states he  was transported by medics to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham and transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with Critical Injuries. Trooper Francis told Caleb Hutton with the Bellingham Herald that Mr. Mationg was ejected through one of many shattered windows. He was found unconscious with internal bleeding before being transported.  An updated press memo from the Washington State Patrol says Mr. Mationg passed away from his injuries at 5:03 pm on Tuesday, July 26th, 2016.

Troopers on scene say both Breckenridge and Martinez were out of the vehicle when they arrived. Both Breckenridge and Martinez reportedly  gave Troopers conflicting stories about who was driving the Jeep prior to the crash so Troopers are using physical evidence at the scene to determine who was driving the vehicle before it crashed.
Trooper Francis also told Caleb Hutton that Substances found in the Jeep tested positive for heroin and cocaine. Troopers suspect those drugs may have factored into crash, but they’re awaiting the results of blood tests to confirm who, if anyone, was impaired.

The jeep was impounded to the Washington State Bullpen.

The crash remains under investigation and charges up to and possibly including Vehicular Homicide  are pending against the driver of the Jeep, when that person is determined by investigators.
