Snohomish County, Washington- According to a press release from Shari Ireton, Director of Communications with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, divers with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office recovered human remains found in a vehicle underwater near the Mukilteo ferry dock last Friday.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner has identified those remains as belonging to 20 year-old Jose Sanchez Diaz, who went missing last August. The cause and manner of his death are pending results from an autopsy from the Snohomish County Medical Examiners Office.

The remains were recovered during an early morning dive operation on July 22, 2016. The remains were recovered from the vehicle but the car has not been recovered from the water. The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office did not give an exact date for the recovery of the vehicle.

Sanchez Diaz’s red 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse was discovered by commercial divers under about 50 feet of water and approximately 100 feet from the end of the Mukilteo Ferry loading dock on Tuesday, July 12, 2016. It was unclear how the vehicle ended up in the water.
The vehicle matched the one the victim was driving when he disappeared on August 29, 2015.
