Mount Vernon, Washington- A Mount Vernon Officer attempted to stop a vehicle on Riverside Drive near Fir Street for speeding and a lane violation around 1 pm today.

The vehicle failed to stop for the officer and he pursued it to the area near the old Goodwill store. The vehicle came to a stop and the officer attempted to take the occupants into custody, however the vehicle drove towards the officer, nearly striking him and continued back onto Riverside Drive.

The Officer noted the passenger had a mask over his face and had something in his hands, possibly a weapon.

The Officer gave pursuit and continued on Riverside Drive to Hoag Road where the suspect vehicle struck another vehicle that had pulled off to the side of the road hearing the police sirens. No one was hurt in this collision.

The suspects then drove into the Salem Village housing area, abandon their vehicle and fled on foot into the field and wooded area west near the Skagit River.

Mount Vernon police called in their canine unit who tracked and located three subjects in the field a few hundred yards from their vehicle. The suspects were taken into custody and at least one subject was treated by medics and firefighters from the Mount Vernon Fire Department for a dog bite before being transported to the Mount Vernon Police Department for further investigation.

This story is developing and will be updated as more information becomes available.
