Bellingham Man Dies in Crash on I-5

Fatal Crash

Whatcom County, Washington– The Washington State Patrol responded to a fatal 2-car crash on Northbound I-5 near Grandview Road in Ferndale around 3:53 pm on August 22nd, 2016.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 59-year old David Spry of Bellingham  was traveling Southbound on I-5 in a 2007 Kia Optima when his vehicle crossed the center median and struck a 2003 Dodge Pickup Head-On. His vehicle then rolled and landed on its roof. Mr. Spry died at the scene.  The press memo states he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The Dodge pickup was being driven by 37-year old Kent Schuyleman of Lynden.  Mr. Schuyleman and his 10-year-old son , Evan Schuyleman of Lynden  were both injured and transported to St. Josephs Hospital in Bellingham for treatment.  The press memo states they were both wearing their seat belt at the time of the crash.

Both Vehicles were totaled.  The Kia was impounded by Heston Hauling for safe keeping and the Dodge Pickup was impounded by Blaine Towing for Safe Keeping.

The Cause of the crash is under investigation.
