Former Skagit Sheriff’s Deputy Under Investigation

Skagit County, Washington- A former Skagit County Sheriff’s Deputy is under investigation for suspicion of embezzlement from a nonprofit organization called the Pacific Northwest Police Detection Dog Association where he was treasurer for nearly 14 years.

Deputy Brian Lehr, a 25-year veteran of the Skagit County Sheriff’s Department was placed on administrative leave from the Sheriff’s Office in December of 2015 while an internal investigation was conducted.

Deputy Lehr had been  replaced as treasurer for the non profit organization in May of 2015  and the new treasurer found discrepancies in accounting and multiple computer files that  had been deleted.  The new Treasurer also found information on the computer indicating the Deputy might harm himself and she contacted the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Lehr allegedly admitted to investigators to using around $1,200 of the nonprofits money  for personal use.

Deputy Lehr submitted a letter of resignation to the Sheriff’s Office during the investigation but  was termination from the Sheriff’s Office in June of 2016.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was contacted by the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office and their investigation into the incident is ongoing.
