Acme, Washington – Authorities have identified the man shot and killed in Acme on Tuesday, December 6th as 27-Year old David J. Palagruti of Mount Vernon.
According to Whatcom County Sheriff, Bill Elfo, Mr. Palagruti was sitting in the passengers side of a vehicle with his girlfriend at a home in the 6000 block of Saxon Way around 8 pm Tuesday when he was shot twice in the head at close range. His girlfriend was not injured in the shooting and called 9-1-1.
Law Enforcement Officials believe that Mr. Palagruti was targeted in the shooting and say the suspect approached the vehicle and had a very brief conversation with Mr. Palagruti before opening fire on him. The suspect then fled on foot. Officers from multiple agencies responded to the shooting but were unable to find the shooting suspect.
Mr. Palagruti was airlifted to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham, but later died from his injuries. No arrests have been made in the incident and the investigation is ongoing.
