Island County, WA –  A 33-year old man from Big Lake  who is being held at the Island County Jail after being arrested in Mount Vernon on January 28th for Investigation of  Domestic Violence Assault was found unresponsive just outside his jail cell around 1:58 pm on February 10th, 2017.

According to a press release from the Island County Sheriff’s Office, the inmate attempted to hang himself while other inmates were out at visitation.   The 33-year old man was located when his cellmate returned approximately 20-minutes later.

Island County Corrections Staff immediately began Life Saving efforts, including CPR on the man and 9-1-1 was called.

Medics responded and the man was transported to Whidbey Health Hospital where he is being treated. His condition is unknown.

The man, who is also a Skagit County Sheriff’s  Deputy was placed on Paid Administrative  leave following his domestic violence arrest in January.  He is accused of several domestic violence related charges after reportedly assaulting his wife at their home. He was  being held at the Island County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail for investigation of 2nd Degree Assault.

The Deputy was booked into the Island County Jail instead of the Skagit County Jail to avoid possible conflicts of interest in the case.

The Deputy is not being named by SkagitBreaking.com because it is our policy to try to protect the identities of  victims of Domestic Violence.
