Bay View, WA – Kimberly Hughes, the suspect in the July 15th house fire in the 13000 block of Bay View Road that killed two children and injured three adults was released from Jail on Friday, August 18th, 2017.
Multiple Skagit County Fire Agencies responded to the fast-moving fire in the early morning hours of July 15th, 2017.
6-year old Xavier Strawn and 8-year old Rose Mihalovits both died in the fire after their mother, Jessica Starr fell out a second story window while trying to rescue the two young kids from the raging fire. Two additional adults, Bryan Bachofer and Jacob Motz were also injured in the fire.

According to court documents obtained by SkagitBreaking.com, Investigators believe 32-year old Kimberly Hughes intentionally set fire to the home using an accelerant. Kimberly and her boyfriend, Jaramy Chism had been previously evicted from the home and Kimberly Hughes vowed revenge on her Facebook social media page prior to the fire.
Officers located Kimberly and Jaramy in Sedro-Woolley and arrested them after finding fuel cans in the back of their vehicle. Jaramy was earlier released from custody in late July.
Prosecutor Rosemary Kaholokula said in an email, “The state has made a determination that there is currently insufficient information to file charges in Superior Court at this time.”
The charges of two counts of First-Degree Murder and one count of First-Degree Arson were dropped, but may be refiled at a later time as the investigation into the fire continues.
