Mount Vernon, WA- According to a press release from Lieutenant Greg Booth of the Mount Vernon Police Department, officers responded to a fatality motor vehicle collision at the intersection of S. 15th and E. Kincaid Street around 8:15 p.m. on November 12, 2017.
Initial reports indicated that two vehicles were involved, and that an occupant of one vehicle had possibly been ejected.
Upon arrival, officers located a severely injured patient outside one of the vehicles and initiated life-saving efforts until medical crews arrived. The patient, a 61-year-old Mount Vernon man, was later pronounced deceased by medical staff.
Detectives with the Mount Vernon Police Department and the Washington State Patrol responded to the scene for the investigation. The evidence at the scene indicates that the suspect driver was westbound on Kincaid Street in a pick-up truck and failed to stop at the intersection with S. 15th Street.
The force of the collision spun both vehicles, causing the rear passenger of the second vehicle to be ejected. The driver and another passenger of the second vehicle were medically treated and later released with minor injuries.
The driver of the pick-up truck, a 50-year-old Marysville man, was detained at the scene for investigation of DUI. He was later transported to Skagit Valley Hospital for a blood draw, and then booked into the Skagit County Community Justice Center for investigation of Vehicular Homicide.
The Mount Vernon Police Department asks that anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has any information that would assist investigators to call them at (360) 336-6271 (during business hours) or (360) 428-3211 (24-hour dispatch information line).
