Murder Charges Filed Against Former Bellingham Man Accused of Killing Wife

Murder Investigation

Park City, UT– The Summit County Attorney’s Office has filed a formal murder charge against ex-professional football player, Anthony Darnel McClanahan.

McClanahan, 46, is suspected of murdering his wife, Keri Colleen “KC” McClanahan, 28, in their Park City hotel room on November 2, 2017. Charging documents state that Anthony McClanahan flagged down a Park City police officer just outside of the hotel and reported that he, his wife, and their baby were attacked by two or three men. However, even after repeated questioning, he would not give the location of where this attack had occurred. Anthony was found with lacerations to his face, neck, wrists, arms, and torso.

At about the same time that McClanahan had flagged down a police offer, a tenant of the Park Ridge Condominiums called 9-1-1 to report that she had seen a man “army crawling” on the second and third floors of the hotel, calling for help.

The Park City Police Department responded to the hotel, and found Keri McClanahan in her room, unresponsive and covered in blood. She had sustained multiple cuts to her neck, along with numerous defensive wounds and carpet burns on her body. A bracelet knife was found at the scene, and during autopsy, the Park City Medical Examiner determined that Keri’s injuries were consistent with the blade of the bracelet knife. The Medical Examiner opined, along with the evidence at the scene, that Keri had put up a “significant struggle” prior to her death.

Charging documents also state that police reviewed footage from the entrance of the hotel, and did not find anyone entering or leaving the hotel who matched the descriptions that Anthony McClanahan had provided. Police also canvassed the surrounding area and did not find any additional witnesses or suspects matching the given descriptions. There were no signs of forced entry to the hotel room, nor were there any signs that a small child had been present.

Anthony McClanahan is from Bakersfield, California. He played collegiate football for Washington State University, followed by a brief stint with the Dallas Cowboys. He then played the next four years in the Canadian Football League.

Anthony and Keri both lived in Bellingham, WA. While living in Bellingham, Anthony ran many youth football camps and adult fitness programs. Keri has family who still reside in the Bellingham area.

The Summit County Attorney’s Office has requested that Anthony McClanahan be held without bail, due to this crime being committed while he was out on bail from a recent first-degree kidnapping arrest and charge.

The Park City Police Department requests that anyone with information about the death of Keri McClanahan contact them at 435-615-5847.
