Mount Vernon, WA – President of the Rotary Club of Mount Vernon, David Lukov, announced that their rotary club has committed to donating $10,000 to Community Action’s Capital Campaign for a new service center.

“The members of the Mount Vernon Rotary Club are very aware of the many ways Community Action serves many people in Skagit County, and our Board of Directors wanted to help support this organization through this capital campaign” said Mr. Lukov.

In response to the growing needs of the community, Community Action needs to raise $2.7 million by March 2018 to purchase the existing building at 160 Cascade Place in Burlington.

Of the nearly 30,000 individuals and families that Community Action helped in 2016, 40% were children. The Community Action Agency has outgrown their present facilities of 12,000 square feet and 88 personnel. The existing facility is not designed to meet the needs of our youngest community members. With a Child Safe Zone and Children’s Instructional Zone, the Community Action will be better equipped to serve their youngest clients.

Community Action offers over 18 core programs that assist local families and individuals on their journey out of poverty, including a family shelter. Community Action has seen a 21% increase in service needs and is responding to a greater number of our community members struggling to find or keep housing or basic shelter.
