Burlington Police Department Press Release: Shots Fired on Monday Evening

Burlington, WA – According to a press release from the Burlington Police Department, officers responded to reports of shots fired on March 19, 2018 at about 9:07 PM.

The initial reports of shots fired came from the area of Spruce Street and Cedar Street in Burlington. Multiple 911 callers also reported seeing two vehicles speeding through the area. While responding, officers discovered a passenger car in the area, which had rolled over and was unoccupied. This crashed vehicle was later determined to have been associated with the shots fired call.

Officers from the Mount Vernon Police Department, Sedro Woolley Police Department, and Skagit County Sheriff’s Department all responded to the scene to assist Burlington with the scene, as well as to establish a perimeter, and search for the suspect vehicle.

Officers located the occupants of the rolled passenger car, about a block away from the scene of the accident. The passengers were identified as a 17-year-old boy from Ferndale and a 16-year-old boy from Bellingham. Both were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Burlington Police Officers were able to confirm that shots had been fired. At this time, they have not received reports of anyone being struck by the gunfire.

The motive for the shooting is unclear at this time, however the incident appears to have stemmed from an argument that originated in front of the theater at the Cascade Mall. Police are still looking for an older model red minivan with front end damage, which may be associated with this case.

This case is still under investigation and anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Burlington Police Department at (360) 755-0921.
