Anacortes, WA – The Samish Indian Nation announced on April 17th, 2018 that it has hired Debra Jones as its Health Director. Jones, a member of the Samish Indian Nation, will be responsible for managing the range of services that are offered to serve the health and wellness needs of Samish Tribal Members.
According to a press memo, Jones, a registered nurse, comes to the Samish Indian Nation after serving as an RN Team lead for Peace Health in Burlington, Washington and serving in various nursing roles with Mira Vista Center in Mount Vernon, Washington and at Sandord USD medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Jones has experience coordinating video telemedicine and assisting the ER needs of patients from over 25 rural facilities in four states, and providing emergency services at the Rosebud, Pine Ridge, Sisseton-Wahpeton, Lower Brule and Yankton Indian Reservations.

“The Samish Indian Nation can’t wait to bring Debra’s experience and health background to help serve our Tribal Members,” said Tom Wooten, Chairman, Samish Indian Nation. “Her background and the fact that she is a Samish Tribal member made it clear that Debra is a great fit for this role. I am excited to see how she will work with our Health Department staff to continue to offer health and wellness services to our community.”

I’m ready to get to work to serve the health and wellness needs of our Samish Community that has given me so much.”
Jones hold an associate’s degree in nursing from the University of South Dakota and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Sioux Falls. She is also a Vietnam Veteran and served in the United States Navy.
