Sedro Woolley, WA – According to a press release from the Washington State Patrol, 2 men were killed and 2 women were injured in a crash overnight. The accident occurred near Bassett Road, which is about 4 miles north of Sedro Woolley.
Washington State Patrol Troopers, along with multiple Skagit County Agencies (Law, Fire, and EMS) responded to the scene at about 10:50 PM on Friday after receiving reports of a high-risk motor vehicle accident. After arriving on scene, crews found a crashed GMC Yukon SUV with four people inside.
The driver, identified as Jonathan E. Egleston, 30, of Sedro Woolley, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Per the WSP press release, no restraint (seat belt) was used. A passenger, identified as Jason A. Swanson, 24, also of Sedro Woolley, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His seat belt restraint was used. The next of kin for both men have been notified.
Two women were also injured in the crash. Kristina R. Keefer, 18, of Sedro Woolley, was injured and transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. It is unknown if her belt restraint was used. The second woman, Jasmin M. Picken, 18, also of Sedro Woolley, was injured and transported to Skagit Valley Hospital. It is unknown if her restraint was used. Their condition is unknown at this time.
The preliminary investigation concluded that the GMC Yukon was southbound on State Route 9, between Mosier Road and Bassett Road. The vehicle lost control while going around a curve, striking a power pole and a jersey barrier on the northbound shoulder. The vehicle then came to rest on the northbound shoulder of the highway.
It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this crash. The cause of the accident is listed as “Speed / Crossing Center Line.” There are no pending charges.
The highway was closed at the scene of the accident for about four hours during the investigation, but it has since reopened.
