Mount Vernon, WA – Mount Vernon Police and Fire Department units responded to reports of a bicyclist struck by a vehicle in the 3700 block of East College Way around 8:13 p.m. on Saturday, October 27th, 2018.
According to a press release from Mount Vernon Police Lieutenant Greg Booth, upon arrival, Officers and Medical crews found the bicyclist, a 46-year old Mount Vernon woman, unconscious and suffering from significant, life-threatening injuries. The woman was transported by medics to Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon before being transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Detectives with the Mount Vernon Police Department were called to the scene for the investigation. The adult male driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.
Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicate the female was riding her bicycle Westbound in the Eastbound lanes of travel. Detectives say it is unclear why the woman was in the roadway, traveling against the flow of traffic. Weather conditions at the time of the collision were poor, said Booth.
The on-scene investigation was concluded just before 11:00 p.m., and the roadway was reopened.
