Mount Vernon, WA – Officers with the Mount Vernon Police Department were dispatched to a weapons offense in the 700 block of N. 1st Street around 10:42 p.m. on November 11th, 2018.
According to a press memo from Lieutenant Mike Moore with the Mount Vernon Police Department, through their investigation, Officers learned that there had been a domestic dispute at the residence. The suspect, a 34-year old Mount Vernon man had allegedly brandished what the female victim described as a “machine gun” at both herself and a juvenile male. The suspect allegedly threatened to kill them both and anyone who arrived at the house. Prior to police arrival both the female and juvenile male had fled the residence leaving the suspect inside with the weapon.
Containment was set up around the residence with the assistance from the Washington State Patrol, Skagit County Sheriff’s Office and the Burlington Police Department. Neighboring houses in the area were evacuated as a precaution. Members of the multi-jurisdictional Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT) along with a Mount Vernon Police Department Tactical Operations team responded to the scene. Attempts were made to negotiate with the suspect to peacefully surrender for approximately three hours. Officers made entry into the home and the suspect was taken into custody without incident. The weapon used in the crime was recovered as evidence.
The suspect, a 34-year old Mount Vernon man was booked into the Skagit County Community Justice Center on the alleged charges of Assault 2nd Domestic Violence and Threats to Kill Domestic Violence.
