Blaine Man Injured in Early Morning Crash on I-5

WSP Press Memo

Burlington, WA– The Washington State Patrol responded to a two vehicle crash on Southbound I-5 near milepost 241 around 2:05 a.m. on December 7th, 2019.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 26-year old Peter Kovtun of Blaine was traveling Southbound on I-5 in a white 2014 BMW when he lost control of his vehicle, struck a barrier on the right and came to rest in lane two of the interstate. Troopers say Kovtun got out of his vehicle and was standing next to the vehicle when both him and the vehicle were  struck by a 2018 Toyota being driven by 61-year old Fu Ren of Vancouver, B.C.

Kovtun was injured and transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment. Fu Ren was not injured in the crash. Both vehicles were totaled and impounded for safe keeping by Carl’s Towing in Burlington.

Drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the crash and troopers say the cause of the crash was “Speeds too fast for conditions.”
