2 Dead, Bellingham Couple Injured in Major Crash in Douglas County, WA

Douglas County, WA –  Two people have died and ten others have been injured, including a Bellingham Couple,  in a major crash in Douglas County, Washington over the weekend.  According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, around 1:13 p.m on June 7th, 2020, a green Chevy Astro Van was traveling Southbound on State Route 97 near milepost 218  in Douglas County, Washington.

Troopers say the van, being driven by 29-year old Luis Florespinzon of Mexico crossed the centerline of the roadway for unknown reasons,  where it  struck a Northbound white 2018 Ford F150 Pickup towing a cream 2017 Camp Trailer. The truck and trailer were being  driven by 75-year old Tristin Shirley of Bellingham, WA. The force of the first  impact caused the F150 to rollover  and the camp trailer become detached from the truck before the pickup then struck a Southbound 2019 GMC Sierra Pickup towing a 2009 Boat trailer with a  20 foot North River boat onboard. The force of this impact caused the boat to become detached from the trailer and the boat ended up in the roadway.   The Astro van was carrying the driver and 8 passengers. Troopers say the driver, 29-year old Luis Flor-espinzon of Mexico was wearing a seat belt but  died at the scene. A passenger in the van, 31-year old Luis Leveron-Rodriguez of Seattle was also killed in the crash. Troopers say he was not wearing a seat belt.  Passengers, 29-year old Oscar Dzaflores of Bonney Lake, 23-year old Guadalupe Gallegos-marquez of Seattle, 27-year old Carolina Garcia-Valdez of Bonney Lake, 24-year old Jorge Oliva-Rodriguez of Seattle, 26-year old Maria Olivas of Des Moines, 26-year old Karen Perez Sanchez of Seattle and 28-year old Jairo Vivarrojas of Kent were all injured and transported to Central Washington Hospital for treatment. Only Garcia-Valdez was wearing a seat belt according to Troopers.

Troopers say the driver of the Ford F150, 75-year old Tristin Shirley of Bellingham and his passenger, 77-year old Dorothy Shirley of Bellingham were both wearing seat belts and were both injured. They were transported to Central Washington Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the GMC Sierra, identified by Troopers as 72-year old Erick Erickson of Quincy, Washington and two passenger, 64-year old Dennis King of Quincy, Washington and 71-year old Gerald Poole of East Wenatchee, were also injured and transported to Central Washington Hospital. Troopers say all three men were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Dicks Towing and Repair impounded the Astro Van and Camp Trailer. Thompson’s Towing impounded the Ford F150, Randy’s Towing of Wenatchee impounded the Boat Trailer and boat and Stormin Towing impounded the GMC Sierra.

Troopers say it is unknown if drugs or alcohol was involved in the crash. The cause is listed as “Driving over the centerline.”
