Troopers try to catch cow running on I-5

Cow-File Photo A cow running on Interstate 5 near the Stanwood area  was shot and killed by troopers Saturday morning.

Washington State Patrol Troopers responded to reports of a loose cow around 10:30 a.m.  The Cow was running westbound on State Route 532 in Stanwood when it eventually made its way onto the southbound lanes of I-5. The owner of the cow was also chasing the cow.

Troopers shut down the freeway to try and corral the cow, but they were unsuccessful.

The owner of the cow authorized Troopers with the Washington State Patrol to shoot the cow to end the chase and avoid any sort of serious accident on the freeway.  The cow was then removed by the owner.

Livestock owners can be fined if their animals get out onto a roadway.  They can also be held liable if there is an injury or accident as a result of their animal getting out.

There were no injuries during the chase.
