Man shot In Mount Vernon Overnight

Crime Scene: An Early Morning Shooting took place here

Mount Vernon, WA:   In the early morning hours  of March 18th, 2015, Officers from the Mount Vernon Police Department responded to reports of a person who had been shot in the 200 block of  South 1st street.

Emergency Dispatchers with Skagit 9-1-1 reported that they  could hear multiple additional gunshots in the background while taking the initial 9-1-1 calls.

Investigators learned that a 38 year old man and a woman had been walking in the 200 block of Main Street arguing with each other.  Several people were standing outside a business that had just closed.  A 37 year old man in the group called out asking them to keep their voices down.

A verbal confrontation between the two men started.  Several friends of the 38 year-old man learned their friend was in an argument and came to the location.  The argument escalated to a point where guns were displayed and shots were exchanged between the 37 year-old man and several people in the other group.

A 38-year old Mount Vernon Man was struck in the torso by one of the rounds.  Fire and Medic units from Mount Vernon responded and transported the man to Skagit Valley Hospital.  His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

The 37 year-old man who was in the initial argument suffered a head injury after being struck with a blunt force object by one of the individuals and was treated at United General Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

A brother of the man who was shot posted a comment on the Skagit Breaking Facebook page stating that his brother was going in for surgery this morning. He had no additional comments.

I spoke to the  owner of the grey van shown in the photos below. The van was struck multiple times by bullets and the owner stated that she was asleep when the shooting happened at her residence nearby and did not hear the shooting.  She has spoke with her insurance company and they do not cover the damage to her vehicle. Her drivers door window was shot out, there is a bullet hole in the passenger side front windshield and there is a bullet hole in her drivers door.   She asked that her name not be used in this article but gave us permission to show photos of the damage to her vehicle.

You can assist with repairs to her van by clicking the GoFundMe account here
