Mount Vernon Couple Injured in New Years Day Crash

Whatcom County, WA- The Washington State Patrol responded to a two car collision on State Route 542 near  State Route 9 in Whatcom County around 1:07 pm on January 1st, 2016.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 32 year old Jake Dubbs of Deming was Eastbound on State Route 542  in a black 1997 Ford Pickup when he crossed the center line and hit a Westbound white 2004 Honda CRV head-on.

  The Honda CRV was driven by 68 year old Marty Thawsh of Mount Vernon. The press memo states both drivers were injured in the crash and transported by medics  to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham.

A passenger in the Honda CRV, 63 year old Laura Thawsh of Mount Vernon,  was also injured and transported by medics to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham.

Both Vehicles were totaled and impounded to the Washington State Patrol Bullpen in Bellingham.

The press memo states the cause of the crash is under investigation and charges are pending.   The press memo lists alcohol as a possible cause of the crash.
