Bystanders Perform CPR on I-5 After Man Suffers Heart Attack

Exit 231

Burlington, Washington, Firefighters and Emergency Medical Personnel responded to a CPR en progress call in the 23000 block of I-5 Northbound near exit 231 just after 4 pm on March 14th, 2016.

According to archived audio recording, Firefighters from the Alger Fire Department, District 6  and City of Burlington Fire Department  responded to Northbound I-5 just North of Chuckanut Drive for a male in his 70’s that was having a heart attack.

A Skagit County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived on scene quickly and notified dispatch that CPR was en progress.

The Washington State Patrol and Skagit County Medic 4 responded to the scene as well.

Witness Luke Lee wrote into Skagit Breaking with the following message.  “To the outstanding citizen that risked it all to perform CPR, I would like to say thank you! You saved that Mans life!
I wish we had more people like you! (IOU a drink If I ever find you)
As well as the sheriff, paramedics and firefighters. You all did amazing job! I cannot believe how fast you guys responded!”

Aarika Walker wrote on our Facebook Page that two of her employees were helping give CPR. She stated the man had a heart attack while driving and his wife was able to steer the car off the freeway.

Skagit Breaking has not been able to receive an update on the mans condition.
