Oak Harbor, Washington– Skagit Breaking received an anonymous tip last week about Oak Harbor Police Chief Edgar Green losing his gun at a supermarket earlier this month.  Skagit Breaking forwarded the information on to a neighboring police department for follow up.

Today, Mayor Bob Severns sent out a press release detailing the incident.  According to the press memo,  Chief Green reported on Friday, March 4th, that he had misplaced his personally owned Glock .40 caliber handgun while using the bathroom at the Saar’s Marketplace around 7:30 pm.  He believes he may have left the gun in a towel container.

After arriving home around 8 pm and  realizing the gun had been misplaced, Chief Green immediately contacted the store manager to conduct a search of the restroom for the gun. The gun was unable to be located and Chief Green then notified the Mayor,   city administrators and officers on duty that he needed to file a police report over the loss at around 9 pm so he could have  the information placed in appropriate state and federal databases.

According to the press memo, police department policy requires that an officer “make every effort to secure a weapon and not lose physical control of it.” As a result, Chief Green received a written reprimand for the incident.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of the missing weapon, or you have heard of someone finding a weapon in the restroom, you are asked to contact the Oak Harbor Police Department by dialing 9-1-1.
