Lake McMurray, Washington– An observant clerk at the Lake McMurray store refused to accept a $100 bill that they suspected was fake, ultimately leading to the arrest of Samuel Shriver.
According to a probable cause arrest warrant obtained by SkagitBreaking.com through a public records request, on March 24th, 2016 a clerk at the Lake McMurray store notified the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office that a man had just tried to pass a fake $100 bill. Deputies responded and learned the man, who was described as a skinny white male, with a scruffy beard had parked in front of the gas station pumps and came into the store asking for free gas. The man told the clerk he had no money. When the clerk denied free gas to the male, he began wandering the aisles collecting items. The Clerk the witnessed the male pull twenties, tens and fives in cash from his pocket and then put them back into his pocket. The male then told the clerk that he did in fact have money.
After gathering a number of items, the male approached the counter and tried to pay with a $100 bill. The clerk checked the bill for a water mark and did not find one. The clerk told the man that the store did not accept large bills and the man left the store without taking any of the items or getting any gas.
Skagit County Sheriff’s Deputies responded and reviewed the surveillance video. They were able to identify the male from numerous previous contacts he had with Law Enforcement.
Samuel Shriver was later arrested on May 26th 2016 and is currently being held in lieu of $10,000 bail at the Skagit County Jail on suspicion of Possession of a stolen vehicle, 2 counts of Financial Fraud-unlawful possession, 2 counts of forgery, and physical control of a vehicle while under the influence.
His last known address is listed as the 8000 block of 51st Avenue NE in Marysville, Washington.
