COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – Joseph Herrera was found GUILTY again of second-degree murder on Thursday July 21st, 2016 in a Kootenai County, Idaho Courthouse.
Joseph Herrera was originally charged with Murder in 2011 after he shot his then girlfriend, Stefanie “Bugs” Comack in the face on Christmas day 2011, during what prosecutors described as a jealous fit of rage.
A jury found Mr. Herrera guilty of 2nd degree murder in the original trial, but the Idaho Supreme court later vacated that conviction in 2013 because they said a testimony was given during the original trial that should not have been allowed.
In the second trail, that concluded Thursday with another guilty verdict, Jurors deliberated for four hours before coming back with a 2nd degree murder conviction. Mr. Herrera will be sentenced on September 6th, 2016 and is looking at 22-years to life.
The Comack family has strong ties to Skagit County, with several family members still living in the area, some who have been traveling back and forth for both of the murder trials over the last five years.
Stefanie was just 18-years old when she was killed. She is described as a genuine daddy’s girl who loved her family, hunting, fishing and living the country life.
