Concrete, Washington- The Skagit County Sheriff’s Office Responded to reports of an assault that occurred in the 8300 block of the Cedar Grove area of Concrete, Washington on July 22nd, 2016.
According to a probable Cause of arrest obtained by SkagitBreaking.com through a public records request, Alexander Williams and Michael Boyd have been arrested for Assaulting another man, Calib Hooper with a baseball bat and a 2×4. Witnesses told Detectives the attack on the man was over a girl.
Witnesses told Detectives that Mr. Williams came inside a residence and struck Mr. Hooper with a baseball bat. Mr. Hooper blocked the strike and was hit in the forearm. Witnesses said the two then began fighting. When Mr. Hooper started getting the upper hand in the fight, witnesses said Mr. Boyd stepped in and struck Mr. Hooper in the head with a 2×4. The witness then said Mr. Williams threw Mr. Hooper into the door and the wall, hitting him several more times. The witness also told Detectives that Mr. Boyd then went outside and fired off a round from a rifle. Mr. Boyd is a convicted felon and not legally allowed to be in possession of a firearm.
Another witness told Detectives that he saw Mr. Boyd after the fight and that Mr. Boyd stated that he had hit Mr. Hooper on the head with a 2×4. The witness then went to find Mr. Hooper, who he found was staggering in the roadway. The witness assisted Mr. Hooper to his residence and called for medical help.
Detectives applied for a search warrant, which was granted. At the crime scene they found a .22 bullet casing in the driveway, the 2×4 and baseball bat that were used in the assault, as well as other evidence.
Detectives interviewed Mr. Williams, who admitted to carrying the bat into the residence from a vehicle because Mr. Boyd had told him that Mr. Hooper was going to “jump him” when he walked into the house. Mr. Williams denied ever hitting Mr. Hooper with the baseball bat and he denied ever seeing Mr. Boyd hit Mr. Hooper with a 2×4. Mr. Williams also told the detectives the fight was “mutual combat.” Mr. Williams also admitted that Mr. Boyd had went outside with a Rifle and pointed it down the driveway in the direction that Mr. Hooper was walking. Mr. Williams told detectives that he pushed the rifle up and after about two seconds he heard it fire.
Mr. Boyd told detectives that he didn’t know why Mr. Williams had grabbed a bat but that he was outside when he heard a scuffle and a bunch of yelling in the residence. Mr. Boyd told Detectives he grabbed a 2×4 and went inside. He said he saw M.r Hooper and Mr. Williams wrestling around. He said that Mr. Hooper had gotten on top of Mr. Williams and was reaching for a bat, so he hit him in the head with a 2 x 4 one time, which dazed Mr. Hooper. He then said that scuffle continued outside and Mr. Hooper started to walk towards their car outside, and he was worried that Mr. Hooper might do something to the car so he grabbed a Rifle and fired it into the air. He told Detectives he didn’t intend to hurt Mr. Hooper by hitting him with the 2 x 4, only to get him off of Mr. Williams.
Mr. Hooper was transported to United General Hospital in Sedro- Woolley and then transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The last update Detectives had on Mr. Hooper was he had a severe brain bleed, was currently ventilated and was not able to give Detectives a statement on the Incident.
