San Diego, CA – A San Diego Police Officer is getting a lot of attention this week for one small thing he did to help two kids say goodbye to their Dad who was leaving on deployment with the United States Navy.
According to a Facebook post on January 4th, 2017 from Brettany Buetow, she and her kids went to Shelter Island in Point Loma, San Diego to watch the USS Carl Vinson sail by, as her husband, Joshua Buetow , left for deployment.
This is when a San Diego Police Officer, later identified through social media as SDPD Officer Weaver, pulled up next to the family in his Police SUV as the family was standing and waving goodbye to their father.

The Officer asked the children Rileigh and Austin if they wanted to tell their daddy they loved him as his ship went by. Officer Weaver keyed up his external microphone in his police SUV and the kids got to say “bye daddy, we love you” as the US Navy Ship sailed by and their dad left for an extended period of time on deployment.

Brettany Buetow took photos of the moment as she teared up herself. She said in her Facebook post “I was okay until this happened. I could hardly tell him thank you. It meant so much to us.”

The Kids grandfather, Ron Sr Kline posted “I NEVER go on Facebook, but I would like to take a second out of my day and offer up a big THANK YOU to the Officer that took the time to do this for my grand kids. Thank you so much! Without getting into details, this is the first time their father may be away for a little bit and I’m sure they will never forget that act of kindness. In a time where our Officers get so much bad publicity, hopefully this will help expose the other (good) side of public service. I hope some how this will make it to the Officer in the pictures. Thanks again and God bless you and your family, as you have blessed mine. Take care and be safe!”
Brettany Buetow said “After he let Ri talk (AJ was too afraid to) he parked in the back of the parking lot and watched the ship too. I stopped and said thank you one more time before leaving. Of course, I didn’t even get his name”
Through the magic of social media, Kim Weaver, the wife of Officer Weaver commented on the post ” Thanks for posting this picture. This Officer is my husband. All of your comments are very special and appreciated by him and all our SDPD that work so very hard to protect and serve. Love the Weaver Family.”
Both wives shared Thank You’s back and forth online for the service and sacrifices their husbands and many others have given to protecting the City and our Country before meeting in person.
San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman posted on Twitter “Proud of @SanDiegoPD Officers who get it is often the little things that make the positive big difference for our community we proudly serve”

Officer Weavers father, Michael Weaver posted on the Facebook Thread, “I am a retired sailor. The Officer that did this knows all about deployment. I am so proud my son was able to let your kids say goodbye to their daddy.”
The story of Officer Weavers Kindness has nearly 3,000 likes on Facebook and has been shared over 2,100 times from Brettany’s Facebook page. The story is quickly going viral online with reporters from major news organizations commenting on the thread, requesting more information.
Brettany Buetow said “I never thought it would get this kind of reaction. I had hoped it would be seen by Chief Zimmerman so she could see what an amazing officer she has protecting our city…but I didn’t think it would blow up the way it has.”
