Governor Inslee Visits Mount Vernon Police Department

Governor Inslee is Greeted by Mayor Boudreau and Chief Dodd

Mount Vernon, WA – Governor Inslee visited  the Mount Vernon Police Department on January 27th, 2017 to personally thank the Mount Vernon Police Officers, Staff and Volunteers for the jobs they do, day in and day out, to keep our community a safe and enjoyable place to live.

Governor Inslee wanted to personally support, encourage and thank members of the Mount Vernon Police Department  and the Skagit Multiple Agency Response Team (SMART) for their diligent work during and in the wake of the multiple high risk events they responded to in 2016.

Two of these high risk events included the December 2016 Shooting of Mount Vernon Officer Mike McClaughry and the September 2016 Mass Shooting at the Cascade Mall   in Burlington where five community members, including Belinda Galde, Beatrice Dotson, Sarai Lara, Chuck Eagan and Shayla Martin  were shot and killed by a lone gunman.  In both incidents, excellent police work has led to the suspects being  taken into custody where they are awaiting trail.
