Parkland, WA- A Pierce County Sheriff’s Deputy was involved in a serious traffic collision around 3:30 p.m. on February 7th, 2017.

According to a press release by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office the 34-year old Deputy was on Tule Lake Road South in Parkland, near the Washington High School when his patrol vehicle was struck head-on by a blue truck that had crossed the center line after it had illegally passed a van in a no passing zone.

Deputies said the crash was caused by excessive speeds and road conditions.

Firefighters from Central Pierce County Fire and Rescue spent 30-minutes using extrication tools, commonly know as the jaws of life, to cut the roof and drivers side off the Deputies patrol car to extricate him from the mangled vehicle.

The Deputy is a School Resource Officer with the Bethel School District and has been a Patrol Deputy with the Piece County Sheriff’s Office since August of 2015. He previously worked as a Corrections Deputy in the Pierce County Jail.

The Deputy was alert and talking with medics before being transported to a local hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries.
