Skagit County, WA – The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) closed public access to the Fir Island Farms Reserve on January 8th, 2018. The reserve is expected to be closed through January 26th, 2018 for minor dike and viewing trail repairs.

“There will be large rock-and earth-moving equipment on site to repair the public access portions of the dike,” said Belinda Rotton, Skagit Wildlife Area manager, “Due to the location of the work area, it’s essential we restrict public access for everyone’s safety.”

The Fir Island Farm Reserve Unit is a popular spot for bird watching and walking. The 225-acre site was purchased in 1995 by the WDFW to create an upland snow goose reserve.  The reserve is located on the South end of Fir Island, about three miles from Conway. The Snow-goose reserve is part of the WDFW’s 16,700 acre Skagit Wildlife Area according to the release.
