Mount Vernon, WA – Developers who are looking to build within the city limits of Mount Vernon, Washington, will now pay less in traffic impact fees according to a press release by Peter Donovan, Project Development Manager with the City of Mount Vernon Mayor’s Office.
When City Council Passed an ordinance that reduced residential impact fees by 25% and commercial fees by nearly 50%, they were approving a recent recommendation by city staff. The decision made development in Mount Vernon more profitable, according to the release.
At the Council Meeting, City Planner Rebecca Lowell explained that traffic impact fees are not arbitrary, but rather they are calculated by all cities using an established formula. The formula is based on a city’s total projected transportation improvement costs for the next 20-year period.
The Impact fee reduction is effective immediately, and developers are already taking full advantage of the savings, wrote Donovan.
