This week’s live music spotlight show is Randy Weeks, performing at Farmstrong Brewing on Tuesday, May 18th at 6:30pm. Tickets are $8 presale or $10 at the door until sold out.
Randy Weeks is best known for a song that he wrote called “Can’t Let Go,”which was covered by Lucinda Williams on her Grammy winning album Car Wheels On A Gravel Road in 1998. Ms. Williams was also nominated for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for this hit single.
Prior to Mr. Weeks solo career, he formed a band in Los Angeles in the early to mid-80’s called The Lonesome Strangers. At the time there was a country music resurgence happening. The Lonesome Strangers were on the forefront of a new genre at the time called “Cow Punk,” which combined punk rock or new wave with country, folk, blues and rockabilly.
It didn’t take long for The Lonesome Strangers to attract the attention of Pete Anderson, who was Dwight Yoakum’s producer. The band’s partnership with Mr. Anderson would net a breakout hit of an old Johnny Horton cover “Goodbye Lonesome, Hello Baby Doll,” a couple of hit albums and several years of touring with Dwight Yoakum.
We are extremely lucky to have an artist of Randy Weeks’ caliber living here in the PNW. Come out on Tuesday to listen to this Singer-Songwriter legend and enjoy a Skagit County Spring evening with friends and family.
