Whatcom County, Washington-  On July 21st, 2016,  at 2:15 PM, a Whatcom County  corrections Deputy called for assistance as he had just been assaulted in the Sheriff’s parking lot and had taken a person into custody.

Prior to the assault, a lone female had come into the public lobby of the jail around 2:00 PM and spoke with the receptionist and a Corrections Deputy.

After speaking with them, she threw a rock at the receptionist window, cracking the window before leaving the lobby.  A Deputy Public Defender and the receptionist saw the female throw the rock at the window. A Corrections Deputy was made aware of the damage to the window and went outside the jail to contact Deborah Lea Lindor.

As the Corrections Deputy and a Sergeant searched for Deborah in the Sheriff’s parking lot to the south of the jail, the deputy approached her and saw her holding a metal object, approximately 2 feet in length, in her hands. The deputy asked her to come and talk to him, at which point, Deborah raised the metal object above her head, told the deputy to stay away from her, and started to run away.

The deputy pursued Deborah and as he made contact with her, she turned and swung the metal object at him, striking him in the back of the head. The deputy was able to gain control of Deborah, bring her to the ground, and take her into custody. Other corrections deputies arrived on scene and helped escort Deborah, who continued to resist arrest, into the jail to be booked.

Deputies brought Deborah into the jail and started the booking process. Deborah was searched before being placed into a jail cell and she was found to be in possession of suspected drugs which when tested yielded a presumptive positive result for methamphetamine.

The Deputy was not seriously injured in the incident.

Probable cause existed to charge Deborah with the following crimes:

Assault 3rd Degree for striking a deputy with a metal object.
Malicious Mischief 2nd Degree for damaging the reception window of the jail. Whatcom County facilities estimated the cost at $2,500.
Possession of a Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine for possessing a baggie with a crystal substance that gave a presumptive positive test for methamphetamine.
