Clear Lake, WA– Two Skagit County gals  are being credited with saving a cows life today.

Ashley Richeson and Brittany Richeson of Burlington were out taking care  of their beloved  horses  on Francis Road today as they normally do.    When the girls were  done, Ashley happened to glance over while driving past the cows at a farm in the area  and saw a cow stuck up to her neck in the farms drain pond.

The girls stopped and  noticed the cow had fallen  into the “sludge and poop water”  according to their mother, Wendy Richeson.

The girls then  attempted to contact the farmers but they weren’t home so they called 9-1-1. Dispatchers weren’t sure how quickly  someone could make it out but dispatched a deputy to the scene.

The girls, two of five children have been raised around livestock their entire lives  including horses and buffalo.  The mud and dirty water didn’t stop these two country girls from jumping into action.

Their mom said in a Facebook post that the girls weren’t afraid of the cow or a little bit of mud and  muck. They knew the cow was in danger of possibly drowning or going into shock so they spent over an hour  rescuing the cow from the sludge pond.

The cow was successfully rescued and is alive and well. The Sheriff that responded congratulated the girls on “saving a life today.” The farmer, thanked the girls for saving his cow and went to clean her up and wash her off.

As for the girls, their mom, Wendy said  “After rinsing off the mud and cleaning up,  one is at a riding lesson and the other is getting ready for prom.  Luckily they clean up nice.”
