Body Of Missing Bellingham Man Found

Missing Dale Hanson Flyer

Whatcom County, WA – The body of a missing Bellingham man was found by Searchers around 11:00 a.m. on Friday morning.

According to family members, 79-year old Dale Hanson of Bellingham left his home around 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday July 12th in his green 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup.  He had  plans to head to one of several places,  Twin Lakes/Lone Jack Mine or possibly Glacier Creek or Boulder Creek.   When Mr. Hanson did not return as scheduled his family reported him missing and a search was launched to find him.

Mr. Hanson Family made flyers and posted them online asking the public to keep an eye out for him or his truck. The flyers were shared hundreds of times on various social media sites, including SkagitBreaking.com 

Searchers found his crashed truck over an embankment off Twin Lakes Road around 11:00 a.m. on the morning of July 14th, 2017.

Mr. Hanson had been ejected from his truck and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.  Family members said the area he was found had been driven multiple times and searchers were only able to spot the crashed truck from a helicopter.

Lori Shearer, Mr. Hanson’s Daughter released a statement on Facebook around 2:00 p.m. on July 14th. It said “Our hearts are broken to have to share that we did not get the news we were hoping for. Thank You to everyone who shared our posts, your prayers, texts/messages and to our family/friends and many we do not know that helped in the search. We love you dad.”

Whatcom County Mountain Rescue Crews were called out to the scene and assisted the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office with recovering the remains of Mr. Hanson.
