Fire crews arrived to find the bottom, middle, and top floor apartments on fire. One of the Everett firefighters was able to locate the 3-year-old twin girls, who were inside the bottom floor apartment in one of the bedrooms. One child was on a bed and the other was between the bed and the wall. Both girls were transported by ambulance to Harborview Medical Center. While en route, paramedics initiated treatment for smoke inhalation. Fire crews were then able to extinguish the fire.
The American Red Cross responded to help six families who were displaced by the fire.
Investigation by Everett Fire and Police revealed that the mother of the children left them in the care of another family member when the fire broke out. Everett Police detectives will look at all aspects of the fire, which will include talking with the family.
The origin and cause of the fire is still under investigation.
